About Me
My name is Olivia Jacobs-Farnsworth, and I am a qualified Person-Centred Counsellor and a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). With over 3 years of experience in private practice and 10 years working in educational settings, I am passionate about offering support to individuals facing a range of personal challenges.
What is Person-Centred?
Person-Centred Therapy is rooted in the belief that you are the expert in your own life. I am here to help you explore your feelings, gain clarity, and empower you to navigate life's challenges. My approach is warm, empathetic, and non-judgemental, focusing on creating a safe space where you can feel heard and understood.
I chose to train in this modality because of its deep respect for individual autonomy, and its ability to facilitate self-discovery and personal growth. By working together, we can explore your concerns and move towards meaningful change.
My Experience
Alongside my counselling practice, I bring a wealth of experience from my 10 years in educational settings, where I have supported children, young people, and adults in managing stress, anxiety, relationships, and personal development. This background has given me a unique understanding of the challenges that can arise in both personal and academic life.
I have extensive experience working with individuals who are navigating the complex effects of trauma, dissociation, somatisation, and bereavement. My approach is grounded in compassion and understanding, helping you process and heal from deep emotional wounds. I recognize that trauma can show up in many forms, whether it’s the result of a single event or ongoing distress, and can deeply impact your mind and body.
Dissociation, often a protective response to overwhelming experiences, can leave you feeling disconnected from yourself, your emotions, or your surroundings. I work with clients to safely reconnect with their sense of self, helping them regain stability and integration.
Somatisation, the way emotional pain is expressed through physical symptoms, is another area of focus in my work. Through a gentle, holistic approach, we explore the connection between body and mind, allowing you to release the hold that unaddressed emotions can have on your physical health.
Bereavement and the loss of a loved one are unique, deeply personal experiences that often leave individuals feeling lost, isolated, or uncertain of how to move forward. My practice offers a supportive space to grieve at your own pace, process feelings of loss, and eventually find a new way to relate to life after loss.
Together, we can work towards understanding and healing, helping you reclaim a sense of peace, self-awareness, and wholeness.
I also work under the guidance of a high-level clinical supervisor to ensure that I continue to offer the best possible service to my clients. Regular supervision allows me to reflect on my practice, maintain high standards, and ensure that my approach remains relevant and effective for you.
Whatever challenges you may be facing, I am here to support you. Together, we can explore solutions and work towards a positive, empowered future.
